English Language Teachers’ Requirements to Implement the Present Curriculum at the HSC Level in Bangladesh

The present qualitative study aims at addressing the requirements of the English language teachers to implement the present curriculum at the HSC level in Bangladesh. The study conducted semi-structured interviews with twelve experienced English teachers who have been teaching English at higher secondary level in urban and rural areas. Content analysis was employed to analyze the data to show that teachers perceived the features like mastery of the target language, good knowledge of pedagogy, ability to use the technological tools and the ability to use techniques and methods as well as a good personality are the main requirements of a English language teacher. The results suggested that ensuring the fulfillment of the requirements of the language teachers may help the national language curriculum to be more applicable and implementable.
